DAY ONE I’m at Tiete bus station in Sao Paulo, in Brazil, to catch the bus for the long trip to Lima, Peru – 5,000 kilometers in 96 hours! It’s going to be pretty amazing.
DAY TWO We stopped for lunch at a roadside restaurant and picked up more passengers. I met Lucas, who’s going to see his girlfriend. Hell, change buses in Caceres and go another 200 kilometers north. So many people, so many stories.
DAY THREE It’s 1:00 a.m., and we’re high up in the mountains now. I think I’m the only person not asleep. Today I talked to a family with three young kids. They take the bus once a year to visit their grandparents. They bring a whole suitcase full of books and toys to keep the children happy. Smart parents!
DAY FOUR Just 96 hours later, and we’re in Lima! It’s great to be here, and to get off the bus, but I feel a little sad that it’s all over. It was a wonderful experience.
